2019 SUEDE CABERNET SAUVIGNON HAS ARRIVED!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we really need an appointment?
Yes, we operate by appointment, but are open seven days a week to accommodate your schedule. We recommend booking in advance to get your preferred day and time. That being said, if this is a last minute trip, please feel free to give us a call and if we have an opening, we will do our best to make you a reservation.

We are members, can we just stop by for a tasting?
There are many benefits to being a James Cole member, including complimentary tastings. We love to visit with you at the winery but making an advanced reservation is greatly appreciated.

What if I drop by the winery and see you have tables and seats available?
Our first priority is providing an excellent, personalized guest experience. We do not want to overextend ourselves by accepting too many guests and diminish the experience of those who have taken the time to book an appointment. If you see open seats but we ask you to come back, it is because we are helping other customers or we have incoming reservations that we need to honor.

Are pets allowed at the property?
Because we already have a winery dog and our space is limited, we do not encourage you to bring pets to the winery.

Can our children join us?
We view wine tasting as an adult activity. In addition, the winery is not adequately set up to host children, nor is it child proof. If it is absolutely necessary to bring your children to the tasting, please let us know in advance so we can determine how we might accommodate your family.

Is it okay to bring food to our tasting?
Outside food and wine is not permitted on the property.

Can I buy a glass or bottle of wine to drink at the winery?
We only offer wine tasting flights at James Cole. If you would like to taste by the glass, we would be happy to provide you with referrals to the wonderful tasting rooms and wine bars in downtown Napa that offer that service.

Do you offer tours?
We do not offer traditional tours at James Cole Winery. If you are interested in seeing the barrel or fermentation room, it doesn't hurt to ask your host. If at all possible, we will try to show you around our little production facility.

We hear you have vintage vehicles, is it possible to view them?
If you would like to view our vintage vehicles, mention it to your host and they will be happy to show them to you. Please remember these are collectors items, so we ask that you respect them and do not touch, lean, or sit on the vehicles.

What about shared tastings?
Shared tastings are permitted for those partaking in the Signature Tasting experience. If you have booked a Private Reserve experience, tasting fees will apply to each member in your group. (Handy spit buckets are provided at all tastings.)

I had a great experience and would like to tip my host. Is that acceptable?
We are not set up to accept gratuities on credit cards; however, if you would like to tip your host in cash, they would greatly appreciate the gesture.

Can I view the property without doing a tasting?
Unfortunately not, James Cole is a family property where the owners and their children live. Understandably, staff members always accompany guests during their visits in and around the property. Seeing that our staff is very small, we need to dedicate our time to the guests that have booked tasting appointments with us.

Can I use the property to take professional photographs?
Professional photographs and/or videos are not permitted without prior authorization. Please contact us at 707.251.9905 to see how we might accommodate you.

Do you accept large groups?
If you have a large group (greater than 8 people), please give us a call at 707.251.9905 and we will be happy to discuss your options.

Do you host private events?
We do not host dinners, weddings, or private events of any kind.

Is the guest house available to rent?
The guest house is for personal use and occasional private tastings.

Why do I feel so good when I’m at James Cole?
Great people, great music, great vibes, and great wine — the makings of a perfect tasting!
